Introduction
This spectacular stretch of Borneo is positively brimming with things to see and do, with its fascinating fauna, skyscraper-height jungle canopy, and gorgeous coasts filled with tropical fish. This eight-day vacation promises to keep you active, with time spent admiring nature's splendour on Libaran Island, close encounters with orangutans at a rehabilitation centre, nighttime prowling around Kota Kinabalu's streets, and otherworldly delights in the woods. Borneo offers it everything, and it's all close to home in east Sabah.
Day 1:
Kota Kinabalu

Day 2:
Kota Kinabalu to Kota Belud (1B, 1L, 1D)
Travel to Tambatuon village from Kota Kinabalu and meet the locals. Explore the environment surrounding the village as you walk to a nearby river. Visit a local farm and gather fresh ingredients for a supper that is provided. Cook some traditional local dishes with the host.

Day 3:
Kota Belud to Sungai Kinabatangan (1B, 1L, 1D)
Travel to Sandakan and then to the immersive jungle lodge on Sabah's longest river, the Kinabatangan. After you've settled in, take a river cruise to enjoy the serenity of evening river life (look out for birds, monkeys, and crocodiles, oh my!). After supper, take a guided night walk in the jungle.

Day 4:
Sungai Kinabatangan (1B, 1L, 1D)
Begin the day with a river safari to see the wildlife in the morning. After breakfast, take a professional guide to a nearby oxbow lake to look for proboscis monkeys, pygmy elephants, macaques, and gibbons. Before returning to the lodge for dinner, take another river boat for a second chance to observe more animals (you never know what you could encounter).

Day 5:

Travel to Sepilok, a wildlife refuge, in the morning. Visit the orangutan rehabilitation centre and the nearby sun bear conservation centre.

Day 6:
Sepilok/Pulau Libaran (1B, 1L, 1D)
Transfer to Sandakan and then take a boat to Libaran Island, widely known as Turtle Island since hundreds of sea turtles nest there every year. Take a guided tour of the turtle hatchery on the island and hear about the turtle conservation programme. Later, go to the small village to see how life is on the island. With some spare time, go snorkelling or kayaking.

After arriving, spend the afternoon walking and shopping at Jesselton Point, a waterfront district dotted with stores and street food. Visit the famous Filipino market or the Signal Hill observatory for a panoramic sunset view of Kota Kinabalu.
